Network survival with energy harvesting: secure cooperation and device assisted networking

Description: Mobile devices have weaker energy constraints than those of energy harvesting BSs. This motivates the deployment of device assisted features that are controlled by the infrastructure (BSs). Among these, direct communication between devices (D2D) and devices aided backhauling raise significant interest. This project will study cooperation schemes by taking into account security constraints. It will primarily focus on cooperation schemes involving network nodes and terminals such as D2D links and device enabled backhauling.
Expected Results: Energy aware / network controlled cooperation schemes. The characterisation and specification of security services that can leverage energy scavenging in peer-to-peer/group 5G device-to-device communications.
Mobility Schedule: The ESR will be mainly at CEA-LIST. After 30 months the candidate will join Toshiba Research Laboratories for 6 months to implement and evaluate the proposed schemes in the mobile network platform under the supervision of Dr. Filippo Tosato.
Requirements of the candidate:
At the time of recruitment, the applicant must not have lived in France for more than 12 months in the previous 36 months
A Master degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science or equivalent
Once selected by the SCAVENGE consortium for the ESR positions, the applicants must apply for PhD studentship at Télécom SudParis, Institut Mines-Télécom.
Knowledge on mobile networks, sensor networks, big data, network security
Knowledge on energy systems and management
Ability and motivation to conduct high-quality research, including publishing the results in relevant venues
Strong programming skills (e.g. C/C++, Java, Python).
Working experience in the areas of Mobile Networks, Sensor Networks, Smart Grid, Energy Harvesting, Big Data management, Cloud computing is an advantage.
Knowledge on mobile device architecture and software is an advantage.
Knowledge on cooperative communication schemes is an advantage.
Very good communication skills in oral and written English.
Open-mindedness, strong integration skills and team spirit.
